Santa Fe Public Schools Reopens Nye Early Childhood Center

August 28, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Santa Fe, NM (August 20, 2015) Santa Fe Public Schools will celebrate the completion of phase one of the Santa Fe Early Learning Campus with a ribbon-cutting for the Nye Early Childhood Center at 1pm on Friday, August 28. The Early Learning Campus, located at the site of the former Agua Fria Elementary School, now includes the Nye Center, the United Way at Agua Fria and the PMS Agua Fria Head Start Preschool. The Nye Center and PMS Head Start Preschool were formerly located at Ramirez Thomas Elementary school, where the organizations have worked collaboratively to provide health and educational services to their students.

Nye’s preschool program will serve 340 children ages 3-5 in blended classrooms that include students with and without disabilities. The new Center allows Nye to increase its enrollment of students without disabilities, and to provide state-of-the-art facilities for physical and occupational therapies as well as other support services.

Phase two construction on the Early Learning Campus will include the United Way Early Learning Center. The United Way at Agua Fria currently provides a variety of services for families and young children, parent support and financial security programs, a program for community caregivers, and classes and workshops. The United Way Early Learning Center will provide classrooms for the early care and education of children and caregivers from before birth to age five. The United Way has committed to a $10 million capital campaign for this effort.

The Santa Fe Early Learning Campus represents SFPS commitment to its youngest learners. The District, the United Way and Presbyterian Medical Services, as partners in the Early Childhood Steering Committee, are working to ensure that all children in Santa Fe are socially, emotionally and academically ready for their first day of kindergarten.

Information about the construction of the Nye Center iis available at www.sfps.info.
