Katherine Freeman’s Legacy

The Vision Continues

GROWING OUTDOOR
LEARNING SPACES AT KAUNE

The Early Learning Center at Kaune will soon blossom into a vibrant outdoor space where children will be engaged in learning about the planet and how to care for it. With a vegetable garden, native plant species to attract pollinators, as well as feed and shelter local wildlife, this immersive environmental experience will be a living tribute to our organization’s CEO, Katherine Freeman.

As part of our holistic environmental commitment, we will transform the building at Kaune for optimal energy and water efficiencies, including the use of solar technology.

Outdoor Learning Spaces

Children have been spending less time outdoors than ever before. A 2018 study in the United Kingdom revealed that children today spend about four hours outside per week, roughly 50% less than their parents as kids.

Sustainability at Kaune

New Mexico is home to many long-held cultural traditions that center care and respect for the land and water. From indigenous farming practices, to adobe brick making, to annual acequia “ditch days’, New Mexicans have been coming together for generations to uphold the importance of shared practice and responsibility for the well-being of their communities.

GIVE NOW FOR THE FUTURE OF
OUR CHILDREN AND OUR PLANET

For our generous donors who care about children and the planet, this project is near and dear to Katherine’s heart. Let’s join together to acknowledge the importance of layering high-quality, accessible early learning opportunities, equity for families, and care for the environment.
