UWSFC Makes Second Million Dollar Payment on Kaune Building.

United Way of Santa Fe County is closer to opening United Way Early Learning Center at Kaune with building payment to Santa Fe Public Schools.

Santa Fe, NM – United Way of Santa Fe County (UWSFC) is proud to announce that it will complete the second payment to Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) for the purchase of the Kaune Elementary School Building at 1409 Monterey Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87505. The second payment totaled $1,000,000 plus $50,000 in accrued interest and was paid on Friday, May 24, 2017. The Kaune Elementary School building will become the United Way Early Learning Center at Kaune.

The early learning center at Kaune will provide high-quality early childhood education and care to 184 children, ages six-weeks through Prekindergarten. UWSFC has launched the Kaune Kids Campaign to call on the community of Santa Fe to help raise $500,000 to complete the first phase of renovation: the Brindle Frost Baby Wing for children six-weeks through age 2. UWSFC has raised $3.2 million of the $7 million needed to complete the transformation of Kaune.

“We are proud to announce that we are one step closer to opening the United Way Early Learning Center at Kaune,” said Katherine Freeman, President & CEO. “With the help of the community we will be able to open the Brindle Frost Baby Wing to serve babies, toddlers, and their families in 2018.”

“I greatly appreciate the leadership and partnership of United Way of Santa Fe County.” said Veronica C. Garcia, Ed.D., Superintendent of SFPS. “This win-win relationship helps both of our organizations and ensures that the children of our community have access to high-quality early childhood education.”
