UWSFC Continues Popular Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program with Santa Fe County.
In partnership with the Santa Fe County Community Services Department, UWSFC continues to provide free books to 1,200 children, monthly, with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
Santa Fe, NM – United Way of Santa Fe County (UWSFC), in partnership with the Santa Fe County Community Services Department, is happy to announce that the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program will continue to serve families in Santa Fe County. UWSFC will administer the program, with the goal of reaching 1,200 children. Other partners and supporters include CHRISTUS St. Vincent, La Familia Medical Center, Brindle Foundation, and local libraries.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library was founded by Dolly Parton in 1995 to increase reading among young children. Each month a new, carefully selected and age-appropriate book is mailed directly to a child until that child turns five years old. Any child who is a resident of Santa Fe County is eligible to participate in the program. Additionally, UWSFC mails books in Spanish. About 300 children receive books in Spanish. Over 12,000 books have been distributed since the program launched in October 2014.
“Early reading efforts with children and families are very important. UWSFC is happy to partner with Santa Fe County Community Services Department to offer books to children in our community,” said Katherine Freeman, President & CEO. “We know that more than 80% of parents enrolled in the program read to their child, daily.”
